"Yes"

Make a fist and nod it up and down like how you would nod your head "yes."

"Help me"

Put a fist on top of a flat palm and pull them toward your body to say "help me." Push the same fist and palm out toward a person to say "help you."

"Bike"

Hayden's not doing it in this picture, but you circle your fists around as if you're riding a bike.

"Floss"

Kinda self explanatory... ;) Also, I'm wondering if I should just change the blog to be called "Sign Every Other Day or So" :) I'm trying to be better at this, I promise!

Catching Up

Sorry for not posting in so long! With Hayden being under the weather, I didn't really have a model for the signs. 

Here's Hayden doing an assortment of signs. "Bus" is taking two fingers and pretending to pull down on the cable for your stop. "Toys" is making a "y" with your hands (putting out your thumb and pinky) and shaking it. "Book" is like you're opening a book. Hayden does, and always has done, his book as opening outward toward us rather than opening it toward himself. He's just silly like that. ;) "I Love You" can be signed by putting our your palm and then closing the middle and ring fingers so that only your pinky, index and thumb are up. That means "I Love You."

"Outside"

Open and close your hand twice, beside you to sign outside.

"Hat"

"Fish"

This one's a bit hard to see from Hayden, but you just move your hand around like a fish swimming.

"Signing Time"

Use your pointers and circle them around one another to sign "signing/sign."

Point to your wrist and where your watch would be to sign "time."

"Dirty"

Put your hand under your chin (Hayden does this one his own way...) with the top of your hand touching your chin. Then wiggle your fingers.

"Bluecat"

A shout out to our friends in Coleman ;) Sign blue by make shaking your palm with your thumb in (this is the sign "B") and then sign cat by grabbing at your face where a cat's whiskers are.

"Color"

Wiggle your four fingers at your chin.

"Boy" and "Girl"

Boy: grab at your forehead like a boy grabbing his hat. Girl: make a fist and slide it down from your cheek to your chin. (Also, I'm sorry to have skipped another day! I'm really going to try to stay on top of this!...if you're digging this blog, let me know. Help encourage me to stay consistent ;))

"Sorry"

Make a fist and rub it around on your chest. This is very similar to "please" which uses a flat hand. Again, Hayden sometimes does his signs his own way and he tends to not rub on his chest, but more on his shoulder; but we know what he's saying.

"Day"

Start with your arms in an "L" shape: one arm across your body and one standing up at the elbow. With your standing arm, point your index finger and fan your hand across so your arms end up stacked on top of each other ,as if the sun is going across the sky. (I apologize if this one is confusing to understand. Some signs Hayden does don't always look perfect but hopefully the explanation helps a little.)

"Please"

Rub a flat hand on your chest in a circular motion. (Hayden does his near his shoulder...but we know what he means. ;))

"Asleep" and "Awake"

Since I missed yesterday, here are two signs to learn :)


Put your palms together and rest your cheek on them like you're sleeping.

Place your hands as fists near your eyes and then point your index finger up and your thumb down like you're opening your eyelids. This is also very similar to the sign "surprise" - for "surprise" you use much more emotion and make a surprised face while you sign.

"Work"

Make fists with your hands and then stack your wrists and knock them a couple of times.

"School"

Clap your hands together twice like the teacher getting the class's attention.

"Thank You"

With your palm touching your chin, extend your hand outward showing you're giving thanks from you, to the person you're talking to.

"All Done"

Open palm face up, then flip it face down quickly. You can do this motion a couple of times - Hayden style. You may do this sign with both hands at the same time.

"Go"

Use both your pointers and point in the direction you want to go. Hayden, apparently, wants to go everywhere... ;)

"More"

Gather your fingers and tap your hands together a couple of times. This is how Hayden asks for objects. "More toys please, Mommy" is one of his favorite phrases at the moment.

A Sign a Day

I had an idea this morning to start a blog that can teach you one sign a day. I'll be posting either a photo or video of Hayden teaching you to sign. Everyday! (hopefully...;)) Happy Signing!
